Abstract:

Surface finishing process has a huge impact on component performance by developing technology.High abrasion and fatigue resistance surfaces can be obtained by one of the surface finishing process which is called Burnishing process. Especially, increases in surface strength mainly enhance the fatigue behaviour of the component under dynamic loads. Comparing with the other surface finishing process, Burnishing process is the best choice and giving best results. In this project AISI 1020, AISI 1050 ve AISI 1060 carbon steels are used which are commonly used in machinery manufacturing industry.Burnishing process is applied to steels after the drilling process. In the experimental study, the materials were machined to a certain fixed diameter by turning process and then drilling process was carried out with 3 drill bits which were specially manufactured. After the drilling process, burnishing process was applied till desired final diameter was occurred which is 18mm and dinamometer was used to measure burnishing force. Also, the changes in roughness value, micro hardness and micro structures were analyzed. Finite element method was used to analyze the data obtained from measurements and tests. The data obtained from analysis was used to analyze burnishing process. A model was made by using the data obtaining from finite element method and also aluminum, stainless steel and brass materials were used which are not in experiment. During burnishing process, burnishing force was calculated by a commercial simulation program using the finite element method. In this experiment, the effect of burnishing part and burnishing parameters on hole quality and surface roughness was investigated. The results were compared with eachother. Experimental results and simulation results were close to eachother and when the micro hardness results were examined, it was found that hardness of the burshed surface increased when it is compared with inner parts of component.
