Abstract:The main aim of the study is to determine the opinions of teacher candidates on the prevention of aquatic ecosystem pollution. Descriptive survey method was used in the study. The study sample was composed of 222 teacher candidates who were attending the 2nd and 4th classes of the Department of Science Teaching of Elementary School Teaching Department of Gazi University and 46 teacher candidates who were attending the 3rd and 5th classes of the Biology Teaching Department of Secondary Education Science and Mathematics Teaching Department of Gazi University. Data was obtained in the study by the researcher using the questionnaire form developed by the researcher and including the cause, prevention, effect and belief sub-dimensions of aquatic ecosystem pollution. The obtained data was analyzed through SPSS statistic software program. According to the results of the study, teacher candidates stated that pollutants of the aquatic ecosystem should be well defined, harmful chemicals including petroleum products, engine oil, detergent, dye etc. should be prevented from entering in aquatic ecosystem, waste-water should be purified and legislations with high sanction power should be introduced in accordance with the international agreements in order to prevent aquatic ecosystem pollution. Increasing the public awareness and rising new generations more sensitive to environmental issues were stated by teacher candidates as the most significant precaution to prevent aquatic ecosystem pollution.
