IDENTIFYING AND CORRECTING PRE-SERVICE BIOLOGY TEACHERS’ MISCONCEPTIONS AN ACTION RESEARCH

Abstract:

This research was carried out in order to determine and eliminate the complexity and misunderstandings of pre-service biology teacher candidates in terms of general biology course I by following a systematic directive. In the study, the method of action research was used. In addition, the study was carried out with 19 pre-service biology teacher candidates from a public university in Ankara. The data collection tools and trainings planned in accordance with the approaches of the research were applied to all teacher candidates in the same period (total 16 weeks) by the researcher. In order to be used in the research process, data collection tools such as observations, one-to-one and group interviews, student diaries, students' notebooks, tests prepared by field experts using various measurement methods have been used. The biology teacher candidates' misconceptions, concept complexity and misconceptions about the subjects in general biology I were determined. However, the misconceptions, misconceptions and misconceptions of teacher candidates were solved by applying a systematic instruction. The findings related to the subject were discussed.
