Abstract:
In this study it is aimed to determine the effect of History Diagrams to the students' achievements in Social Studies and determine the diagrams' kinds according to their usage. The research is a descriptive definition which was made in Zonguldak, in 2008- 2009 education term, in 3 schools ,which had been determined before. The universe of the research is the 3 schools in Zonguldak. 6th grade students(60 students) who were chosen randomly from three schools which had been determined systematically in Zonguldak constitued the sample. An achievement test which has got 25 questions about the resarched subject was prepared by the researcher. The achievement test was applied in 3 schools teaching with traditional methods. Also some diagrams including the resarched subject were prepared for the research. According to kinds of their usage, these diagrams had been applied with seperately techniques in three schools in which traditional techniques used. After the diagrams' being used in teaching, the questions of the prepared achievement test were applied to the students again.In the analysis of the datas frequency and percentage countings were done by using software SPSS 15 (Statistical Package for Social Science) In this study we reached important results about the effects of the diagrams' kinds of usage on students' success in learning.About the kinds of the diagrams' usage it was determined that the first method had increased the achievement of the students 12,2 %, the second method increased 16,3 %, the third method increased 21 %. In general it was seen that using the diagrams in lessons increased the achievement of the students 16,5 %.
