Abstract:

Compressors are machines that are widely used in the industry and whose costs are often overlooked. As much as 78% of their costs are energy costs, studies have focused on the production of more efficient compressors to reduce this cost. With the developing technology and new production techniques, it has become possible to make compressors that work more efficiently. In this study, the effect of powder metallurgy on the compressor performance was investigated. 1.6 cc volume hinge vane mini rotary compressor designed and a unique manufacturing method has been adopted which enables to obtain compressors with variable volumes by plate insert and extract. The vane mechanism was first produced by the wire EDM cutting of AISI H13 steel and then by the powder metallurgy of Al 5083 alloy and performance tests were performed at low speeds, such as 500-2000 rpm. The compressor produced with vane Al 5083 has reached 10% higher pressure values than the compressor produced with AISI H13 and 40% more efficient than the compressor produced with AISI H13. A cost research was also carried out for mass production, in a 100-part production, it was found that production by T/M method was 2,8 times cheaper than traditional production. Science
