Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to compare the levels of hope in children who are singing in a choir or not. For this purpose, music and choir education, essentially children choirs in Turkey was researched; the concepts of hope, the theory of hope and their connection with music and children were investigated.In the research, Childrenzs Hope Scale which was translated and adapted into Turkish by Atik and Kemer (2009) and Personal Information Form were used to determine the pre test results, informations were given to children and their parents and necessary permissons were taken. The sample of research is chosen from 6th grade students who were volunteered (6-A and 6-B, n:34) from the city of Karabuk, Safranbolu Harmanlar Middle School. In the research, Pre test Post test with control group model from the quantative research techniques was used. A childrenzs choir was formed with the experimental group (n:17) and practiced every Thursday and Friday from 16:00 to 16:45 for 9 weeks and at the end of the study Childrenzs Hope Scalez administered again to both control and experimental groups and the differences were compared according to certain varieties.At the end of the research, hope levels of childrenzs who were determined according to their demographic specialities were compared and pre test post test results found significant difference between the scores. The statistical analysis revealed that the hope levels of children who are singing in a childrenzs choir are significantly higher compared to the children who are not.According to the results of the research, suggestions about using the recently developing concept of hope in music education and the importance of children choirs and their qualities were given.
