Abstract:

8. SUMMARY This study has been carried out to find the differences in reaction times against light and sound of elite level football, handball and ice hockey goal keepers. 10 goal keepers from Turkcell Super League, 12 goal keepers from Handball Super League and 10 goal keepers from Ice-hockey Super League are included in the research voluntarily. The average of visual reaction times are 169±16,38 mls (mille second) in football goal keepers, 197,58±16,49 mls in handball goal keepers and 205,2±29,11 mls in ice-hockey goal keepers. The average of auditory reaction times are 144,5±19,52 mls in football goal keepers, 148,42±12,61 mls in handball goal keepers and 165,8± 28,51 mls in ice-hockey goal keepers. According to the findings of the research there is not a significant difference between the auditory reaction times of the goal keepers (F(2–29)= 3,027, p>0,05), but there is a significant difference between visual reaction times (F(2–29)= 3,027, p<0,05). As a result then the reaction times of the goal keepers are compared, it is observed that football goal keepers have the shortest visual reaction times. The main reason for this result is that football teams have goal keeper trainers in their teams and include special training programs in their exercises.
