Abstract:Modern scientific work usually extends beyond a single discipline and requires collaboration of more than one academician. However, communication problems, especially in such group work, slow down the progress. The fact that various academicians are in different locations and may not share the same working hours are the main sources of such problems. Solutions using the advances in information and communications technologies are under study. One of the solutions is the utilization of virtual team technologies. In the present work, academicians using one such application set up at Gazi University are polled to identify the users' point of view and the utility of virtual teams in scientific research. The intention is demonstrating that virtual teams can be an effective work and communication tool.
