Abstract:
The aim of the study is to evaluate the bond strengths of the fiber reinforced composite posts
to root canals following the application of different surface treatments to the root canals. 44
upper premolar teeth were used in the study. After the removal of the crowns of the teeth,
the teeth were endodontically treated. Following the root canal treatment, the post cavity
was opened using appropriate post drills. Before the post cementation, the teeth were
grouped according to the irrigation method used. Saline to the Group 1, EDTA + saline to
the Group 2, phytic acid + saline to the Group 3, ascorbic acid + saline to the Group 4 were
applied. following the cementation with resin cement of fiber posts, 1 mm sections were
taken from roots. Bond strength was evaluated using a universal testing machine. Fracture
analysis was performed using light microscopy. Two randomly selected samples from each
group were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Push-out bond strength values were
significantly affected by surface treatments (p < 0.05). Phytic and ascorbic acid showed
comparable performance with EDTA. Therefore, these agents could be suggested as surface
treating agents.
