Abstract:

Because of the recent decrease in sulphide ores has increased the trend towards studies on the technological and economical development of the recovery methods of nickel from lateritic ores. In our country, only hydrometallurgical nickel production is carried out from lateritic ores located in Gördes district of Manisa. In this thesis, the effects of classical atmospheric leaching and roasting leaching methods on 70% limonite - 30% nontronite blend Gördes laterite were examined and compared with the existing high pressure leaching. Ore size, roasting time, ore/acid ratio, solid/liquid ratio and leaching time parameters were taken into consideration. The temperature was kept constant at 90℃. With classical leaching method, 65% Ni, 62% Co and 31% Fe yields were obtained by leaching 50 micrometerers ore with 1/1 ore/acid ratio, containing 15% solid, for 2 hours with sulfuric acid. With roasting method, after 50 micrometres ore was roasted with concentrated sulfuric acid for 10 minutes, the yield of 92% Ni, 86% Co and 64% Fe were obtained by leaching for 30 minutes in 1/1 ore/acid ratio with the addition of water containing 15% solid. It was possible to achieve values above 85% Ni, 84% Co and 14% Fe, which were obtained at 45 bar and 250℃ in the existing facility. This situation has been seen as an alternative method eliminating the effect of high pressure and temperature, providing operation simplicity and similar yields can be obtained at short time. With less investment, ease of installation and low operating costs, it is thought that low grade ore can be processed economically
