Abstract:Costocohodral calcification is a kind of calcification occurring in costal cartilage related to diseases such as arteriosclerosis, tuberculosis and other infections, feeding, metabolic mineral changes and endocrine dysfunctions. These calcifications badly affect life quality of individuals, however, knowledge on both diagnosis and treatment of them is not sufficient in literature yet. Due to recent developments in radiology area, opportunity for monitoring costocohondral calcification increased. In this aim, PA pulmonary graphs of 2226 adult patients in Çorum city were examined, and change of calcification degree and shape based on gender and age was evaluated. According to the results of the study; it was seen that calcification degree increases with the increase of age, and this difference based on the age is statistically significant (p<0,05). Shape of the calcification is also changing from non-shape to linear with increasing of the age, and this difference is also statistically significant (p<0,05). Based on the gender, it was seen that female patients has lower calcification degree than male patients, and this difference was found statistically significant (p<0,05). Male patients had linear calcification type, whereas female had non-shape or dot style. The difference between groups was found to be statistically significant (p<0,05). The difference of shape and type of the calcification based on gender was found statistically significant correlate in negative direction (r=-; p<0,01).
