Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to develop a five grade Likert type scale which is made of the validity and the reliability study for measuring attitudes of secondary education pupils towards biology lessons. The 122 item attitude scale preliminary draft has been developed by related literature and answers about their opinions and thoughts on biology lesson written with the help of open-ended questions by 339 secondary school students who were randomly selected from secondary education institutions in the province of Ankara. Prepared draft has been applied to randomly selected 401 high school students who have taken biology courses and as a result of the analysis 44 items have been excluded from the scale and the final version of 36 item attitude on biology lesson scale has been obtained. As 36 item attitude scale has been applied to 1995 students that randomly chosen samples from secondary schools in the center of Ankara province, the factor analysis has been done and done dimensional Biology Lesson Attitude Scale (BLAS) has got the final version. Within the scope of BLAS's validity, techniques to test the content and construct validity have been used. As a result of the reliability analysis, the value of Cronbach-alpha has been calculated as 0.96. As a result of validity and reliability analysis, it is shown that within the help of this research BLAS has a value of adequate level in validity and reliability as a scale.
