Abstract:The main aim of this research was to determine the competency of the 9th grade mathematics text book which was prepared by the Ministry of Education in terms of assessment of students improvements in mathematics based on the aims and standards which are placed in high school mathematics curriculum. In this context, in consistent with the basis of literature, we examined to what extend match the ideas, concepts or skills of the benchmark included in the content of high school mathematics curriculum with the ideas, concepts or skills of the benchmark included in the content of this mathematics text book. In addition, the assessment tasks like problems, worksheets, projects and activities included in 9th grade mathematics text book keeps student far in a trivial way out, like using a formula or repeating a memorized term or rule without understanding and how the exercises given at the end of each section contribute to the teacher while choosing and modifying activities. The research carried out based on the document analysis. According to results of the content analysis; while the ideas, concepts or skills of the benchmark included in the sub learning domains like logic, sets, ordinary relation, function and operation are not completely matching with the ones included in the content of high school mathematics curriculum, the ideas, concepts or skills of the benchmark included in the rest of the sub learning domains almost completely match with the ones included in the content of high school mathematics curriculum. One of the main results of this research is the questions used in the book can be solved without understanding the ideas, concepts by the students, and also they can be solved with using formula directly and repeat a memorized the terms. It is concluded on the other hand that the exercises given at the end of each section provide teachers help to choose and develop activities.
