Abstract:

Today, the rate of elderly and disabled people is increasing all over the world and our country. In the aging process, regression become at physiological, mental and psychological functions in the individuals, and their ability to adapt to environmental factors decrease. In our society, the traditional family structure has left its place to the core family. Thus, nursing homes for the elderly living alone have been an option where accommodation and vital needs is provided. In terms of the rights and freedoms of individuals and their daily activities, environment and spaces where accessibility principles are applied, are needed. Nursing homes have been selected as research topic because of the offering sheltering opportunity of nursing homes which comes at the head of the institutions and organizations serving the elderly and the disabled and being among the places where their accessibility should be provided. Proportion of the elderly population, which is higher than the general elderly population ratio of Turkey, Eskisehir, one of the cities attaches importance to the principles of accessibility, three nursing homes affiliated to the Ministry of Family, Work and Social Services of the Eskisehir Family, Work and Social Services Provincial Directorate were selected and these nursing homes have been investigated in terms of accessibility standards. At the end of the research, the present situation was determined, the deficiencies were established, and the solution proposal which will increase the living standards of elderly and disabled people living in these nursing homes were presented
