Abstract:The purpose of this research is to introduce the similarities and dissimilarities of multiple intelligences of the professional basketball players in eight types of multiple intelligences by categorizing the players in respect of the positions on a team. The research is centered on 80 players whose age lies between 17 and 39 and who had played in 8 different teams in First Division and second divison of the Turkish Basketball League in 2009-2010 seasons. To achieve the aim of the research, the players had filled the Turkish version of Multiple Intelligence Development Assessment Scales MIDAS. While solving and evaluating the data, Shapiro Wilks test is used to analyze the conformance of the player's multiple intelligence parameters with the normal distribution. The discrepancies of the players in respect of their positions are evaluated by Kruskal-Wallis test and a difference is determined between the groups having a P value less than 0.05. Analyses are made by Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 17. As a result of the statistical analysis, no significant difference is discovered between the seven types of multiple intelligences -musical intelligence, social(intrapersonal) intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, linguistic intelligence and interpersonal intelligence- of professional basketball players when compared to their positions on the teams ( p>0.05). A significant statistical difference is found between their naturalistic intelligence when the players when compared considering their positions on the teams (p=0.032, p<0.05). To conclude, the multiple intelligence of the professional basketball players playing in different basketball positions have no discrepancy.
