Project Abstract
This project encompasses technical R&D and engineering consultancy activities for the design of a mid-opening disconnect switch system with a continuous current carrying capacity of 2500 A and a short-circuit withstand capability of 50 kA/1s at a voltage level of 123 kV, aimed at improving the performance and reliability limits of high-voltage disconnect switches used in electrical transmission systems. The project output directly supports a product development process, and within the scope of consultancy activities, design verification, analysis, and optimization processes will be carried out in accordance with TS EN/IEC 62271-102 and 62271-1 standards.
The need for this project stems from the technical challenges of simultaneously meeting the criteria of high short-circuit withstand capability (50 kA), long mechanical life (M2 class ≥10,000 cycles), and low maintenance requirements in existing high-voltage disconnect switches. High electrodynamic forces generated under short-circuit conditions cause critical performance losses, such as deformation in contact systems and increased contact resistance. Within this scope, the project provides analysis and design support for the development of innovative engineering solutions, such as an open-system leaf copper contact design, silver-plated surfaces, and a mechanism with a 180° operating angle.
The work carried out within the scope of the consultancy includes electromagnetic force analyses, mechanical strength calculations, contact resistance optimization, and kinematic system evaluations. A 10,000-cycle mechanical life technically guarantees the verifiability of the developed design and 50 kA short-circuit tests.
From an economic perspective, the project contributes to the development of domestic products that can compete in the growing global switchgear market (2025: ~18.6 billion USD, annual growth of 6%+). Thanks to the consultancy outputs, it is anticipated that design errors will be reduced, test repetitions minimized, and development time shortened in the main product development project, resulting in a 10-20% cost advantage.
Within this scope, the project, carried out with the company's own resources, will receive technical R&D consultancy services, thereby increasing the technical accuracy of the main product development project and directly supporting both product performance and commercialization success.
