This article will introduce the reader to metaphor, one of the key concepts in Neuro Linguistic
Programming (NLP). By way of introduction, I will make a case for using metaphor not only
in our personal but also professional lives in order to bring about the changes that we wish to
create. Then, I will briefly explain what NLP is within the context of my own involvement with
it. The article will then continue with the concept of metaphor and offer a definition as it is used
in NLP followed by a discussion on the kinds of metaphor. Building on this discussion, I will
then suggest different ways of using metaphor by means of six activities with the aim of
demonstrating how metaphor may be used not only for a professional but also a personal
agenda.
