Abstract

In this study, pure iron (ASC 100.29), 0.4 % graphite and 0.8-6% Cu powders were alloyed by high-energy attritor and compacted by unaxial cold pressing. Specimens were isothermally annealed in the α+γ region after sintering and martensite particles were produced in the ferritic matrix by water quenching. In dual phase structure, with increasing Cu content and quenching temperature, amount of martensite and thus hardness increased. In this study, it was observed that heat treatment applied to the production of dual phase structure in ingot low carbon steels, can also be successfully practices to low carbon steels produced by mechanical alloying.
