Özet

In recent years, a diet rich in polyphenolic compounds has been recognized as an effective lifestyle change in the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Myricetin (3,3',3',4',4',5,5',5',7-hexahydroxyflavone) is a flavonoid found naturally in many fruits, vegetables and plants. Myricetin, which has strong antioxidant properties due to carrying more hydroxyl groups in its structure, is a remarkable therapeutic compound in the flavonoid family. In addition to reducing free radicals and increasing antioxidant enzymes, there is increasing evidence that Myricetin exhibits several potential therapeutic activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vasodilator, antihyperlipidemic, antithrombotic and antiapoptotic. Studies to date have reported that endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS)/ nitric oxide (NO), nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B), Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), p38 and JNK mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), arachidonic acid-cyclooxygenase (COX), signal transducers and activators of transcription 1 (STAT1) and Liver X receptor (LXR)/ Retinoid Based on these putative pharmacological effects, Myricetin is suggested to be a potential therapeutic for the prevention and/or treatment of CVDs, including hypertension, cardiac hypertrophy, myocardial infarction, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and atherosclerosis. It has also been reported to have positive implications in preventing cardiovascular damage caused by different conditions such as sepsis, chemotherapy and viral infection. However, most of the effects of this versatile flavonoid in cardiovascular disorders have been examined in preclinical studies, and the number of clinical trials is very limited. Therefore, further studies are needed to determine the effects, mechanisms, safety, and effective dose range of Myricetin in healthy and patient populations. In this section, the pharmacological effects and molecular mechanisms of Myricetin on the cardiovascular system, and its therapeutic potential in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disorders are comprehensively discussed.
