Özet

The translation is the process of transferring one language to another and it is a tool used to exchange information and cultures between two different languages. In the process of translation, equivalence between the source language and target language ought to be provided. The most important point in translating literary texts, which is the most translated text type, is the competence of reflecting the feelings of source texts to target texts. Especially transferring dramas which are included in this type, to other languages is an extremely difficult process. It is suggested to translate source language and its culture to their equivalents in target language and culture with particular attention paid to the dialogues. The purpose of this study aims to determine the linguistic equivalence according to Mona Baker’s theory which categorized into four main types. In this study, it is aimed to determine the utilization of the idioms used in the Arabic translation of Emîn Ma’lûf’s Libretto entitled as “Adriana Mater” in French with expert opinion. At the end of this study, it is stated that the expressions used in the French version were translated into the source language with different levels of equivalence.
