Abstract

In this study, a pair of 16MnCr5 chain steel was welded to each other by using flash butt welding method. During the experimental study the pressure was set to 2 Bars and upsetting current times were chosen as 1.6, 1.8 and 2 seconds. The samples were welded under these test conditions. Some of the welded samples was subjected to full annealing heat treatment. Experimental results showed that, welding interface exhibited the highest hardness. However hardness in the interface of non-heat treated sample decreased with increasing upsetting current time. Tensile strength increased with increasing upsetting current time. Full annealing heat treatment reduced the hardness and tensile strength of the welded samples.
