Abstract

In the study, the problem of increasing cements' adhesion by using the manganese abietate compound as an additive has been investigated. Tests were made on the manganese compound produced tinder laboratory conditions to prove its suitability for improving the adhesion property of asphalt cements as an additive. The investigation was carried out with four different asphalt cements and six different aggregates containing four types of limestone and two types of basalt. An attempt has been made to document the additive's effects on bitumen's conventional properties such as: penetration value, softening point, ductility and thin film oven test. Besides, test methods were carried out to investigate the additive's effect on bituminous mixtures: Nicholson stripping, resistance of compacted bituminous mixture to moisture induced damage and Marshall stability ratio. Same tests were performed using asphalt with and without additive, and the obtained performance values were compared.
