In this study, wool obtained from Akkaraman breed sheep raised in Konya region was used and it was aimed to
obtain keratin hydrolysate from this material as a value-added product. Keratin hydrolysate is a valuable
compound frequently used in natural leather production processes. In the study, sheep wool from the same animal
was taken as samples in its natural state and after degreasing by supercritical carbon dioxide (Sc-CO2) extraction
and repeated experiments were carried out with a total of six samples and keratin hydrolysate was produced from
these wools. In this study, it was investigated whether it is possible to obtain keratin hydrolysate from wool
degreased by Sc-CO2 extraction. The obtained keratin hydrolysates were characterised by FT-IR spectrometry.
Hydrolysis is known to be a convenient, economical and relatively easy method for the production of keratin
from waste sheep wool. At the end of this study, it was found that it is possible to produce keratin hydrolysates
from both natural wool and wool degreased by Sc-CO2 extraction by alkaline hydrolysis.
