The goal of this review is to summarize the correlation between athletic performance and MCT1 gene polymorphism and to create a data source for the studies of this field. The effect of motivational, sociocultural, physical and physiological factors on athletic achievement has been the area of interest of researchers for many years. Parallel to the development of genetics, the relationship between athletic performance and genetic characteristics has been the subject of research with increasing interest for about 20 years. It is obvious that this interest will continue to grow in the coming years for the development of genetic science and a better high level of performance in athletes. Candidate genes, called sports genes, are the sum of genes which control biological processes that directly or indirectly affect the athletic performance of athletes. One of these genes which is thought to be associated with athletic performance and scientists have been interested in recent years is MCT1 T1470A rs1049434 gene. In conclusion, it may be affirmed that the high blood lactate levels can limit the reflection of individual skills on performance. In addition to being the endurance criterion of the polymorphism, MCT1 gene can be used to create personalized training programs and monitor performance improvement.
