Özet:

This M.S. study deals with the contribution of the product designer to the effective implementation of new technologies. With various other motives, technological changes play a determinant role in the historical development process of product design. This determination takes place by the interference of technological changes to the development of design criteria.

Since it is a product adapting various photographic technologies to a close product-user relationship and accommodating elements and units mediating this relationship, the subject is discussed with specific emphasis on amateur photographic camera designs. The research does not comprise a detailed technical explanation of photographic cameras, but rather an analysis of the functioning and certain design values of some typical consumer oriented camera designs having significant technical content; and their relationship with the users and the technology.

To illustrate the subject matter, the literature of radical technological changes is scrutinised together with the literature of visualisation and photographic technologies. The data are broadened by a field study, planned for having outcomes both from the designer’s and the user’s points of view.

This study proves that if a recently emerged technology is implemented on a product satisfying successfully-investigated user needs and product intentions, it effects the design values and product success positively. Additionally, it is found that an increase or a decrease in the quantity of technological implementations on a product are considered as critical facts about product language from the designers’ viewpoint since providing ease of use by implementing extra technologies are stated to be a design problematic in itself.
