Abstract:

In this study, it has been aimed that the tests of accelerating aging ef fects were carried out to some varnishes are widely used on the mas sive wood surfaces for investigating of performances of the varnish la yers. For this purpose, the cellulosic, polyurethane and acrylic varnishes have been applied on the test samples prepared from beech (Fagus Orientalis Lipsky), scotch pine (Pinus Sylvestris L.) and oak (Quercus Pet- reae L.) woods. The test samples tested according to ASTM-D 1211 in hot and cold condition for each the duration of one hour. After that the hardness and brightness value have been measured. According to the test results, the hardness and the brightness value have been decreased of all the varnish types after the accelerating aging pro cess. The acrylic varnishes which is applied on the scotch pine gave the best result.
