The feasibility of the removal of reactive dye Orange 86 MX-3R from artificial water was examined using low cost sepiolite in batch and continuous systems. The equilibrium adsorption isotherms have been analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich, in batch system. Langmuir adsorption isotherm constants corresponding to the adsorption capacity, q(0), were found as 48.5, 67.9 and 96.9 mg/g for sepiolite at 20, 50 and 80 degrees C, respectively. Adsorption process was an endothermic process and kinetic studies showed that the equilibrium was attained within 140 min in batch system, and the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The increase of adsorption rate with an increase in temperature for Reactive Dye Orange 86 MX-3R adsorption on sepiolite indicated chemisorption with dissociation.
