A novel quinolizidine (lupine) alkaloid, sophazrine [1], has been isolated from the leafy shoots of Sophora griffithii. X-ray crystallography of another related alkaloid, anagyrine [2], isolated from the leaves of Thermopsis turcica, confirmed its structure.
