Urban planning and urban design actions are the important tools for creating livable urban environment. These two different concepts describe an integrated whole. Multi-dimensional relationships, which are necessary between planning and urban design actions, are the prerequisites for creating perceptional environment. Planning actions that include decisions of design in general physical structure, provide important inputs and direct urban design studies which are the arts of shaping the physical structure. This relationship of whole and fragment between planning-urban design gain a different meaning in urban design. The fragments coming together have an importance in urban design studies made on all optimal-sized urban areas. The current applications show that the necessary relationships between planning-urban design actions cannot be built in all urban design actions, urban design studies are made in a narrow window. The planning and urban design actions are the subjects of second-class studio in Gazi University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Its aim is to define a life and space in a settlement, to make conceptual and theoretical approaches and to make planning and urban design studies on a case study area about livable urban space. Planning-urban design process and methods have a special importance in these studio studies. This paper aims to open a discussion on process, method and results of planning-urban design, which can give opportunity to interdisciplinary work on educational process and integrated design methods that are active in visual and functional links. These links are necessary in order to understand, to reach the whole from urban fragments on Çeşme- Dalyan settlement by studio academic staff in 2001-2002 academic year.
