Özet

The purpose of this study is to design, analyze and verify a test setup that has capability of testing a power transmission shaft under single and combined loads.

Power transmission components are subjected to a complex and expensive design process to provide high performance and durability according to the working conditions. The tests of the shaft, which is one of these components, are also vital as well as its design and production.

Shafts, which are part of the power transmission systems in industries such as aviation, automotive, maritime, are exposed to various tests for commercial or certification purposes. These tests can be static or fatigue tests. A suitable test setup is required to perform these tests. In this study, the design, analysis and manufacturing of a test setup that can enable the test specimen to be tested under single and combined loads were performed. In addition, a mock shaft test specimen was placed in this test setup and its testability under both unidirectional and multi-axial combined loads was investigated. This research was done by placing strain gauges on the mock shaft test specimen. The 3D design model of the mock shaft test specimen was created in the computer environment and FEM modeling was done using a commercial finite element software. The input loads applied to the FEM model and the output strain values obtained from the model were compared with the voltage (converted to strain) values read from the sensors as a result of the same input loads applied by hydraulic equipment and load cells in the real environment test setup.

This study presents a design, analysis and validation of a test bench for structural strength testing of shafts. The aim of this study is to provide guidance to researchers working in this field and to make contribute to the literature by designing a test bench that will test how shafts and similar load transfer structural parts behave under different load conditions.
