Trace metal contents of hair samples of smoking and non-smoking people in industrial and residential areas were determined using atomic absorption spectrometry after microwave digestion. The results were compared to data reported in the literature. The metal concentrations obtained for Cu, Fe, Pb, Cr, Ni, Cd, Mn and Zn were found to be 5.79 - 16.8, 9.91 - 160.8, 1.24 - 5.53, 0.11 -3.31, 1.58-5.24,0.11 -0.35, 1.36-36.3 and 117.0 - 167.4 mu g g(-1), respectively.
