Abstract

In this study, weldability of B4C reinforced Alumix 231 based composite materials produced by using powder metallurgy techniques has been investigated. Various amount (0-5-10-15 (% wt) of B4C particles were added to the pre-alloyed Alumix 231 (Al-Cu %2,5-Mg %0,5-Si %14) powders and then mixed in a three dimensional turbula for 45 min. Powders were compacted and sintered in argon atmosphere at 640 °C for 4 h. These blocks were welded by using Tungsten Inert Gas welding (TIG) at 25 V, 135 A and 14 lt/min welding parameters in Ar atmosphere. Macro and micro examination have been carried out and effect of reinforcing elements on the structure of weld metal has been evaluated.
