Off-line testing of an EKF algorithm for rotor resistance estimation of induction motor drives

The computer simulation of the EKF, based on data generated from an ideal induction motor model driven by a PWM inverter, may not be a reliable guide to its behaviour when applied to a real system. The selection of the appropriate values of EKF process and measurement covariance matrices requires an empirical method and should be carried out with real data. It is therefore important to test the EKF algorithm off-line on data taken from an actual induction motor drive. In this paper, the system configuration to implement the EKF algorithm off-line is described and the estimation results are presented.
