The aim of this study is to examine the social media addiction levels of university students, contribute to the literature on addiction levels, increase knowledge and awareness, and offer remedial solution suggestions. Quantitative research method was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 923 students studying at Manas University in the spring semester of 2022–2023. The «Social Media Addiction Scale» was used as the data collection tool. While calculating the differentiation status of independent variables in the analysis of the data, independent samples t-test was used for the differentiation status of the social media addiction level with two categorical variables, and ANOVA test was used for the multivariate ones. According to the results of the study, it was seen that the social media addiction of university students was at a moderate level. While there was a significant difference in the social media addiction levels of university students according to the variables of class, faculty, and internet usage time, no significant difference was observed in the variables of gender and department. It was determined that there was a negative low-level relationship between the social media addiction level of university students and the class variable. It has been observed that the social media addiction levels of university students, in particular, differ significantly according to the class variable. This situation has mostly been observed in favor of the preparatory class. In other words, it has been determined that the preparatory class is more active on social media and addicted to the internet compared to other classes. While a negative significant relationship was observed between the social media addiction level and the monthly income variable, no positive significant relationship was found between social media addiction and daily internet usage time. Again, a negative significant relationship was observed between the social media addiction level and the monthly income variable. However, no positive significant relationship was found between social media addiction and daily internet usage time. Considering the above results; especially considering that the students attending the preparatory class are younger and even in their adolescence, conscious media usage themed trainings can be organized for these young people.
