Özet

Communicative approach remains up to date in education and training activities. The reflection of communicative approach to language teaching is the functional use of language in a certain context. Conjunctions are linguistic elements that have important roles in communicating the messages of spoken or written texts to the target audience. In functional language teaching, conjunctions should be treated not only as a grammar topic but also as linguistic devices that serve the meaning and usage dimension of language. This research aimed to explore the existing body of studies that deal with the functions for which conjunctions are used in teaching Turkish. This research is a descriptive content analysis study that used a survey design and document analysis. The research sample consisted of 21 studies that examined the functional classification of conjunctions in Turkish teaching. In the analysis of the data, the previous studies that dealt with conjunctions based on their functions were evaluated in terms of bibliographic information, the way that they discussed conjunctions, and the classification of conjunctions according to their functions. The results were discussed using the descriptive analysis method for each research. The studies that examined conjunctions according to their functions focused on the following topics: defining the functions of a particular conjunction, exploring conjunctions in literary works and their functions, conjunctions used in Turkish and their functions, exploring and comparing conjunctions in Turkey Turkish and Turkic accent, chapters in linguistic books, and chapters in a thesis that deals with cohesion. It was also found that the studies that examined conjunctions based on their functions mostly examined the functions of explanation, result, consolidation, insertion, probability, answer, acceptance, comparison, contrast, negativity, summarizing, reason, choosing, condition, prediction, summing and time - sorting, while the least examined functions were aim, point of view, detailing, otherness, price, expectation, approach, regret, reminder, replacement. The studies that composed the sample referred to conjunctions in different ways such as sentence joiners, prepositions, conjunctions and conjunctive elements, and conjunctive prepositions.
