The effect of single dose alcohol administration on the malondialdehyde, glutathione, total protein and hydroxyproline levels of rat liver was evaluated. Sixteen Wistar rats with an average weight of 150-200 g were used in the study. A single dose of 40% ethanol, 0.5 g/kg of body weight was administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) to the study group of ten rats while a control group of six rats received the same dose of 0.9% NaCl (saline). After 24 hours all the rats were killed and their liver was obtained and evaluated. A significant decrease (p<0.05) was observed only in glutathione levels after 24hrs and this decrease was not dose dependent.
