Özet

The sources of environmental noise caused by road traffic, its effects on people as well as the relation between the road traffic noise and traffic light timing are investigated in this paper. A commercial software, The Community Noise Model (CNM), is employed in modeling Kizilay and Ulus crossroads which are two of Ankara's important crossroads and determining the noise level at several points around these crossroads for today's traffic volume and traffic light timing. Similar calculations are also made for traffic light times are assumed to be doubled and no any change is made in the crossroads. The results suggest that when the traffic light timing is designed the environmental noise induced by the traffic has to be taken as an important parameter in the design level.
