Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to propose a revision in the secondary education sociology curriculum regarding how to teach Alevism as a social reality within the social structure of Turkey. The arguments over including Alevism in the teaching program of the course of Education of Religion and Ethics and making an arrangement in the content of the course books have not come to end but increased. The problems regarding the teaching of Alevism as a course content result from the sensitivity of the subject and from the approaches of the parties. Even though there are a great many controversial topics in the study, the processes and components of curriculum development were analyzed in order to integrate Alevism into secondary education sociology teaching with a scientific and sociological approach. The recommendations about how to deal with Alevism within the content of the latest secondary education sociology curriculum that was prepared according to constructivist approach were put forward.
