Özet
This study evaluates the position and quality of earthquake-resistant design in architecture undergraduate programs in Türkiye through a comparative analysis of the 2022 and 2025 course syllabi. The aim is to reveal the reflection of the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş earthquakes on the curricula through quantitative and qualitative findings. Data compiled from YÖK Atlas and university course catalogs show no change in the number of compulsory courses, while a limited increase is observed in elective courses. Most of the course content remains engineering-based and theoretical, with a weak integration with architectural design studios and practical courses. To delve deeper into these findings, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine experts who have research experience and teaching experience in this field. Common recommendations were obtained regarding the integration of earthquake knowledge into studio processes, increasing interdisciplinary collaborations, and the use of current pedagogical tools. Based on the findings, a curriculum consisting of 2 hours of theory and 2 hours of practice is proposed, including regulations, structural configuration, ground-structure interaction, and damage analysis, as well as a mandatory "Earthquake-Resistant Architectural Design" course. In conclusion, it is considered necessary and recommended to strengthen the number and quality of earthquakefocused content in architectural education, update it pedagogically, and integrate it into the core of design education.
