Özet

© 2017 by Türkiye Klinikleri.Arachnoid cysts are formed by the duplication of arachnoid membrane between arachnoid and piameter. Although Spinal Arachnoid Cysts (SACs) are rare; they most commonly appear in thoracic area, cervical area and in the posterior of the spinal cord. Our case is a 6-year-old female patient. She was admitted to our hospital with complaints of approximately 2 months of slow-down in movements and urinary retention. There were no neurologic deficits in our examination. Cervical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed an intradural cystic lesion located in the anterior of the spinal cord at the level of C3 and C4 vertebra corpus. The patient was operated. Contents of the cyst were aspirated with the help of 20-gauge needle under the guidance of fluoroscopy at the C3-4 intervertebral disk distance. In post-op MRI, the size of the arachnoid cyst was 70% smaller. The patient, who did not have any no urinary retention and movement disorders, was discharged. SACs can cause neurologic deficits by pressing the cord. The treatment of symptomatic cysts is dissecting the cyst from neural tissues and excision of it together with the arachnoid wall. It must be kept in mind that another option for treatment is a minimal surgical procedure, which is releasing the cord by aspirating the cyst contents with a minimal invasive surgical procedure in addition to major surgery.
