Özet

Disasters, including man-made disasters such as armed conflict and natural disasters such as floods, storms, and earthquakes, can impact children's kidney disease. These events are prevalent not only in less well-resourced settings but also in high-income countries. Disruption of infrastructure and sanitation results in limited access to food, water, and medical care which can lead to dehydration and worsen underlying kidney disease. Climate change has also contributed to challenges in providing kidney replacement therapy, as it requires reliable electricity and water supplies. Acute kidney injury is prevalent and requires rapid action for early recognition and management, including improvised techniques for the treatment of crush syndrome. Chronic kidney care for children with pre-existing kidney conditions is also a priority, particularly maintaining access to medications and ensuring uninterrupted dialysis. Education about disaster preparedness for medical professionals, including collaboration and planning among various national and international groups, is essential in managing kidney challenges, especially in children following these unexpected events.
