Özet

According to the Türkiye Building Earthquake Code—2018 (TBEC-2018), foundation soils are classified into six categories: ZA, ZB, ZC, ZD, ZE, and ZF. The location of the construction site (coordinates) and the local soil class determined by geotechnical investigations are entered into the interactive Earthquake Hazard Map of Türkiye supplied by AFAD, through which the seismic design parameters required for structural analyses can be obtained. In this way, the influence of local soil conditions can be incorporated into earthquake hazard analyses for buildings. In this study, the effects of local soil class at the foundation level on the base shear forces and overturning moments acting on reinforced concrete residential buildings with a raft foundation system were investigated. The buildings have the plan dimension of 23.05 × 37.75 m (870.14 m2) and are assumed to be located in the city center of Kahramanmaraş, one of the provinces situated on the seismic belt of Türkiye and heavily affected by the February 2023 earthquakes. For the analysis, three different local soil classes (ZC, ZD, and ZE) and two building heights (ground +3 and 8 stories) were considered, resulting in a total of six scenarios. Structural analyses were performed using the Sta4CAD software. The results revealed that, as the local soil class changes from ZC to ZE, base shear forces and overturning moments increase. Correspondingly, eccentricity values were observed to increase, effective foundation dimensions to decrease, and foundation bearing pressures to increase.
