SELCUK UNIVERSITESI EDEBIYAT FAKULTESI DERGISI-SELCUK UNIVERSITY JOURNAL OF FACULTY OF LETTERS, cilt.48, ss.357-360, 2022 (ESCI)
The Story of Philosophy, written by Bryan Magee in an extraordinary style, has a narrative that can appeal to -amateur or professional-many philosophy readers. The work, supported by a different visual on each page, tells the history of philosophy as a gripping story. On the other hand, it invites thinking while preserving the questioning nature of philosophy. The work, whose original name is The Story of Philosophy, evokes a Binbir Gece Masallari, written in English at first glance, and even touches upon international political issues as the pages progress. The story of philosophy started in Ancient Greece flows like a movie until the 20th century. Small notes and images attached to the left and right of the pages make philosophy an enjoyable and easy-to-understand, as if it were taken from the notebook of a student who has just started university, by removing it from being an activity in the ivory tower. On the other hand, although it follows the historical order, it is open to debate how systematically the work progresses and gives satisfactory information. The work, in which it is almost impossible to find the unique philosophical terms of the philosophers, is ready to attract those who will meet just philosophy, especially with its plain and simple style of expression.
