The purpose of this paper is to explore the use of the PLISSIT model as an alternative tool for the assessment of sexual problems of patients with a stoma in nursing practice. The facts affecting the sexual life of people with a stoma, the methods for solving these problems and the use of the PLISSIT model by nurses in order to address these problems were reviewed. Results highlight the benefit of the PLISSIT model in solving the sexual problems of people with various diseases. People with a stoma can encounter sexual problems. However, nurses experience some difficulties while addressing sexual problems. The literature review suggests that use of the PLISSIT model and guiding model based interventions for sexual problems should be necessary during the care of the nurse to establish the role of education and consultation.
