In this study, the design and stress analysis of a simile-speed gearbox to be used in the powertrain system of an electric vehicle has been conducted. Since the drive of the gearbox is provided by the electric motor, the stress computations have been performed by considering the torque-speed characteristic of the motor us a reference. To prevent the root fractures caused by excessive tension, which is the most common problem during? the operation of gear pairs, the optimization has been performed by the stresses are analyzed with the KISSsoft software. In the analysis tooth surface strength and root stresses are emphasized. Solutions have been conducted by considering the safety coefficients specified in ISO 6336 "Calculation of load capacity of spur and helical gears" standard for geometric parameters and their effects on gear strength have been observed. The results indicate that a modulus of 2.5 mm, helix angle of 22 degrees, and the number or teeth 3.2 of the pinion gear are optimal for the first gear pair. The optimum parameters of the second gear pair have been determined us 2.5 mm modulus, 20 degrees helix angle, and pinion gear with 33 teeth.
