Abstract

In this article the popular folk narrative, "Bay Bure Beg Ogh Bamsi Beyrek Boyi" in the Dede Korkut Book is analyzed within the context of hero's journey. The actions of the hero are considered with the universal formula of the initiation rituals. After his supernatural birth, Bamsi Beyrek starts to his journey which is an initiation adventure. He becomes successful during this journey full of challenges and being initiated he returns to his native land where the adventure has started. This journey occurs in a circular line. While the departure of the hero is the symbol of being grown up, the initiation part is the hard process of challenges. And returning home symbolizes the rebirth of the hero, by leaving his old In and entering the adults' life.
