Özet

It is possible to say that for traditional handicrafts, which is one of the important items of the culture, is a value that meets the requirements of people at an important level when the industrialization is not so fast. The objects that come out of this situation are in communication with the person and environment, living objects, not only meets the requirements of people, but also they reflect the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the period. With the globalization of our world, the ever-diminishing cultural diversity has also affected the differences in products, which has led to the production of similar products and to a lesser extent to handcrafts. Products that produced with copper workmanship, which are starting to come out with the diversity of production, are seen as one of the product groups resisting time. Copper pots, which have an important place in Turkish culinary culture, have taken different names over time according to the locality, production technique, shape, pattern and function. In this paper, the way that copper workmanship has taken from the past has been researched which is produced by the craftsmen of Gaziantep copper shops. The position of the copper craft in relation to the products produced in a large number of similar typologies based on the serial production brought by the technology and the industrialists was questioned. Also the interaction of this hand craft with the new designs developed today is discussed. The relationship between design and craft concepts is handled through the production of copper products, it is thought that these two concepts will feed each other and bring new perspectives to the designers. In this field-based research, observation and interview techniques were utilized, which are necessary for the research to be conducted in a healthy way and reach a reliable result.
