Investigation of hydrogen production amount of the hydrogen production facility using V-Cl thermochemical cycle in the SOMBRERO fusion reactor

Özet

This study investigated the hydrogen production potential of the hydrogen production facility integrated into the SOMBRERO fusion reactor. The fuel chamber thickness in the SOMBRERO fusion reactor was kept constant and UO2 nuclear fuel was used at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%. Static neutronic analyses of the SOMRERO fusion reactor were performed using the Monte Carlo neutron transport code. The tritium breeding ratio (TBR) and energy multiplication factor (M) were calculated using neutronic analyses. Based on the M value, the required total thermal power (Phpf), thermal power ratio (1-ψ), and hydrogen production rate (𝑚̇𝐻2 ) of the hydrogen production facility were calculated. The V-Cl thermochemical method was chosen as the hydrogen production method for the hydrogen production facility integrated into the SOMRERO fusion reactor. The study revealed that the maximum hydrogen production rate was approximately 4.203 kg/s with a 6% UO2 nuclear fuel content.
