Novel Approaches to Urban Design and Architecture Education: Design Studio Practice and Pedagogy, Pınar Dinç Kalaycı, Editör, IGI Global yayınevi, Pennsylvania, ss.178-191, 2024
This study deals with the pedagogy of architectural design studios. By analyzing atelierz as a case study, it builds a discussion on situating the architectural design studio off-center, implementing experimental pedagogy, and producing excessively undisciplined work. Dealing with such a subject is crucial in exploring and discussing how architectural knowledge and skills, which cannot be fully accommodated within the scope of architectural education, are made accessible, used, and produced in the studio. The first part of the study, divided into three parts, explains what is off-center in architecture. The second part discusses the need to adopt an experimental pedagogic approach to situate the studio off-center and explains the experimental fiction of atelierz. The third part exemplifies the fictions and works of atelierz, discussing the excessively undisciplined nature of the knowledge and skills they lead to. Considering the conceptualizations, pedagogic fiction descriptions, and experiences presented, the opportunities and risks of situating the studio off-center are discussed.
