Özet

Historic buildings present several challenges when it comes to accessibility. Structural obstacles such as narrow doors, steep stairs, and uneven floors can make it difficult or impossible for people with disabilities to experience the building. Many historic buildings lack modern amenities such as elevators, toilets, and ramps, which are crucial for accessibility. While preserving the historical integrity of the cultural property on the one hand, trying to make it accessible on the other makes it necessary to discuss the use of correct materials. Any changes must be carefully evaluated without diminishing the historical significance of the building while at the same time giving all users an equal right to experience. It is not just a matter of social justice but a way of ensuring our cultural heritage is accessible to everyone. In addition, making historical buildings accessible will contribute positively to tourism, awareness, and preservation of the building and its surroundings. This study aims to evaluate the materials and technologies that enable cultural assets to be accessible through examples. Within the scope of the study, firstly, the practices in the world were mentioned. Then, to contribute to the practices in Turkey, examples following the items in the Accessibility Monitoring and Inspection Forms of The Ministry of Family and Social Policies were classified.
